Knocking bar distance measuring device (KLAM*)

Specific for maintain a stone forming machine which is using shock vibration, the portable distance measuring device was developed. Few parameters and appropriate maintenance of the stone paving machine plays a major role in producing good quality concrete products. As the machine is wearing off as well as when it works under heavy load, the distance between board and knocking bars increases during operation. The wear and teare of the spring isolators of the vibrating table may lead to changes in the distance respectively.

Disadvantage of conventional measurement methods

The position of the knocking bars and the machine table has significant effect on the compaction, therefore it needs to be regularly checked and adjusted. Usually this is done by using a straight edge laid across the table ribs. A feeler gauge is used to determine the distance to the knocking bars. Thus the measurement is subjective, and it depends on the operator and his sense of accuracy. During adjustment this process is repeated several times to verify the changes just made. Hence, this method is complicated and time consuming.

Simplification through optical sensor technology

The developed Knocking Bar Distance Measuring Device (KLAM) simplifies this process considerably. With the use of optical sensor technology the distance is determined touchless and is displayed. During the setting process, the device can remain in the measuring position.
